Pope Benedict XVI sympathetic to plight of SSPX and Traditionalist Catholics

From: EWTN.com - POPE MEETS TRADITIONALIST BISHOP

In amazing contrast to his predecessor, John Paul II, Pope Benedict XVI — aka “Papa Ratza” — met with the SSPX bishop Bernard Fellay in order to discuss reconciliation between the Society and Rome.

Good news for any Traditionalist: The Pope is rumored to be prepared to grant a universal indult that would grant all Catholic priests throughout the world the right to use the Tridentine rite in celebrating Mass. This act would carry into effect what the late Pope John-Paul II suggested (but refrained from imposing) via his 1988 Apostolic Letter Ecclesia Dei:

“…By virtue of my Apostolic authority I Decree… respect must everywhere be shown for the feelings of those who are attached to the Latin liturgical tradition, by a wide and generous application of the directives already issued some time ago by the Apostolic See, for the use of the Roman Missal … of 1962.”

The fact that bishop Fellay is requesting that the Pope rescind the decrees of excommunication that were imposed upon him, the other SSPX bishops and archbishop Lefebvre, is also evidence that the SSPX accepts the authority of Rome and is not a schizmatic, sedevacantist sect.

I look forward to seeing how this progresses!
