About the site

Miserere.org is devoted to orthodox Catholicism and traditionalism. Its mission is to share the beauty of the Catholic Faith and the richness of its Tradition, as well as to raise public awareness of current moral and political issues and their importance to Christians.

About the name

Miserére [< L. "have mercy;" pronounced meese-eh-REH-reh] is taken from the beautiful Psalm 50(51):
Miserére mei, Deus, secúndum misericórdiam tuam;
et secúndum multitúdinem miseratiónum tuárum, dele iniquitátem meam.
Have mercy on me, God, in your kindness; and in your compassion, blot out my offense.

Our e-mail address, aspergesme@miserere.org (aspérges me), is taken from another line in Psalm 50(51):
Aspérges me hyssópo, et mundábor;
lavábis me, et super nivem dealbábor.
Sprinkle me with hysspop, and I shall be cleansed; wash me, and I shall be made whiter than snow.

The words of this psalm are exquisitely beautiful, but it is particularly moving to hear it sung. Listen to this rendition of Allegri’s Miserere mei Deus, sung by the Tallis Scholars:
